Tree planting days attended by around 600 Imperial Tobacco employees and their families in Madagascar have taken place this year as part of a major reforestation project.

Around £300,000 has been spent on replanting upwards of 150 hectares of land each year since 2002 by our business in Madagascar.

The Group has four subsidiaries on the island handlng the growing and processing of tobacco as well as manufacturing and distribution.

Staff from all four subsidiaries have been involved in reforestation activities across the country, including General Manager Jean-Claude Starczan.

He said: “As a responsible business the protection of the environment is a key commitment for Imperial Tobacco in Madagascar.

“The Group is also engaged in a number of ongoing social programmes in the communities where we operate.”
